44 firefighters battle Naperville-area house fire - Chicago Tribune

Dozens of firefighters responded to battle an early morning blaze Monday that left a Naperville-area house badly damaged and sent one firefighter to the hospital.

The Naperville Fire Department firefighter was released Monday from Edward Hospital in Naperville after suffering an unspecified medical problem, authorities said.

Forty-four firefighters from Naperville and four other fire agencies were sent to quell the blaze at the largely wooden, single-family house at 2400 Madera Lane, in an unincorporated area northwest of Royce and Lisson roads near the city's far southeast side.

Bureau Chief Scott Salela said Naperville firefighters responded to a 911 call made at 1:05 a.m. Monday concerning the blaze. The man who lives inside the house called 911 moments later to confirm the house was on fire, Salela wrote in a release.

Twenty-four firefighters brought 10 vehicles and pieces of apparatus to the scene, Salela said. Additional contingents totaling 20 firefighters were sent from the Bolingbrook and Downers Grove fire departments, and the Lisle-Woodridge and Plainfield fire protection districts, he said.

Naperville firefighters "arrived on scene within seven minutes of the original (911) call and reported a fully-involved structure fire," Salela said. They quickly determined no one was inside the house, he said.

"The main body of fire was extinguished within 45 minutes" of the first firefighters' arrival, Salela said. Deputy Naperville Fire Chief Andy Dina said the cause and source of the blaze remain under investigation.

No one else was injured during the blaze, Salela said.

Firefighters were assisted on the scene by representatives of ComEd, NICOR Gas and Naperville's Emergency Management Agency and Transportation, Engineering and Development Business Group.

Salela said coverage was provided at Naperville fire stations during the incident by members of the Bolingbrook, Downers Grove and Wheaton fire departments, and the Oswego, Plainfield and Warrenville fire protection districts.
