Warren — Police and fire crews are investigating an apparent explosion Saturday evening that leveled a house in the city.
Police say in addition to the home on the 28000 block of Le Fever near Nine Mile being leveled before 6 p.m., the garage caught fire. No injuries were reported.
Warren Police Lt. Robert Priest said investigators are looking at several possibilities, including a gas explosion. Utility workers were at the scene clearing debris late Saturday.
Priest said the first call came in at 5:44 p.m. and nobody was in the house at the time of the incident.
Investigators were able to reach the homeowner following the apparent explosion.
"We heard what sounded like a bomb and then we called 911," said Nor Saleh, a neighbor who lives across the street from the leveled house.
Katie Lang, a bystander who saw the blaze, said the moment the house was leveled was felt and heard from a few blocks away.
Another neighbor, James Lewis, was in the area at the time and knew right away something was wrong.
"I've heard explosions like that before, and I figured it had to be gas," he said.
Warren police say the investigation remains ongoing.
