Christmas Tour of Homes house includes unique touches - Times Record News

“I just love Christmas,” said Courtney Waggoner, who is participating in the 2019 Senior-Junior Forum Christmas Tour of Homes.

This year’s event will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Six houses are included on the tour along with a hot-chocolate bar at The Woman’s Forum, 2120 Speedway.

Houses on the tour include: Brenda and Harry Patterson, 100 Memorial Dr.; Nancy and Ted Smith Jr., 3200 Hamilton Blvd.; Courtney and Todd Waggoner, 3302 Harrison St.; Linda and Garry Tippit, 2505 San Simeon; Sarah and Matt Pitts, 2033 Avondale; and Tammey and Jeff Haynes, 5105 Crown Ridge Dr.

Waggoner said she aimed for a Pacific-Northwest feel for her decorating this year, with ample fresh greenery that will line the fireplace mantels, doors and railing.

One of her favorite traditions is a nutcracker collection that Waggoner’s godmother adds to each year for each of the children.

A sparking white debutante tree is a surprise treat in honor of the Waggoners’ daughter.

The couple purchased the house two years ago from previous owner Jane Spears Carnes, a well-known local artist.

Along with the lovely home, the couple acquired the hand-painted play house in the backyard.

The “rabbit house,” as they call it, is a wonderland of branches, lights and mini furnishings including a kitchen and washroom.

Waggoner said they rent out the play house for children’s parties and young ones spend hours enjoying the fantastical cottage that seems fresh out of a story book.

The Waggoners’ main tree is stacked with dozens of unique ornaments with special meaning for the family. From the wacky (bacon, frogs and an iPod) to handmade keepsakes, the tree is a feast for the eyes.

Cool colors, crystal and heirloom china outfit the dining room and special touches include wedding presents and other mementos on the table.

A homemade gingerbread house will be on display in the kitchen along with a massive Christopher Radko-ornament wreath on loan from Mik’s, and more.

Tickets are $20 per person to visit all the homes and the hot-chocolate bar.

Tours are self-guided, and visitors can go to the homes in any order at any time during event hours. Volunteers will be on site at each of the homes to point out special features.

Tickets turned in at the last home attended will be included in a drawing for a door prize donated by Harvest Drug and Gift.

Christmas Tour of Homes tickets are available at The Forum, Market Street, Gypsy Kit, Harvest Drug and Gift and at each home on the day of the tour.
