Muncie firefighters battle southside house blaze - The Star Press

MUNCIE, Ind. – City firefighters on Sunday night battled a house blaze on the city’s south side.

The fire, in a home at the southeast corner of Walnut Street and 28th streets, was reported to emergency dispatchers at 7:09 p.m.

Scanner traffic indicated smoke was seen coming from both the house’s basement and attic.

However, authorities at the scene indicated most of the fire damage appeared to be on the first floor. Information was not immediately available on a possible cause.

No one was home when the blaze was reported, but five cats were inside. At least two of those animals had been found deceased.

No firefighters were injured in battling the fire.

Sunday night’s fire was a block north of the site of a house blaze on Feb. 7 that killed a nine-year-old Muncie boy.
