During the third night of Blind Auditions for season 18 of NBC’s The Voice, it seemed that coaches Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, John Legend and Blake Shelton were a little slower on the big red button when it came to adding to their respective teams and there’s a reason behind that. It turns out that this season’s teams are limited to ten members, so each coach may be a bit more discerning or is looking for something specific, such as Kelly’s ongoing quest for the perfect female country star.
The third night did boast some significant talent, but it also provided some heartbreaking moments.
ALLEGRA MILES (16) – St. John, US Virgin Islands
- Auditioned with “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon
Chairs turned: 1 – Kelly, 2 – Nick
KELLY: “I’m honestly shocked you’re not a four-chair turn…l love that song so much. I love what you did with it, I love that it was different from the original and that’s what makes you stand apart. That artistry of taking something and making it different and unique to yourself.”
NICK: “If you chose me, I would not let you down and we would, I think, make it, at least to the finals and, hopefully, all the way. ”
CAMMWESS (21) – Blythewood, South Carolina
- Auditioned with “Earned It” by The Weeknd
Chairs turned: 1 – John, 2 – Blake
JOHN: “You came in with your own style. It just felt like you were an artist, a force to be reckoned with on this show. I would love to work with you, Cam.”
BLAKE: “Everybody in this room right now, from catering to the crew and the coaches, all expect you to pick John as your coach. I’m willing to fall on my sword for you…I would love to be your coach and take you to the finale.”
- TEAM LEGEND
JOEI FULCO (22) – Lancaster, California
- Auditioned with “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves” by Cher
Chairs turned: 1 – Blake, 2 – Nick (blocked)
NICK: “As you can see, I thought you were amazing, but my friend, Blake over here, cut me off.”
BLAKE: “The Cher that’s in your voice, that’s what had me. The fact that you’re bringing that sound to current music is what’s going to set you apart from everybody else…Welcome home, sis.”
- TEAM BLAKE
SARA COLLINS (18) – Baton Rouge, Louisiana
- Auditioned with “Johnny and June” by Heidi Newfield
Chairs turned: 1 – Kelly, 2 – Nick
NICK: “I thought it was a phenomenal performance…you’re the kind of artist I’d love to work with.”
KELLY: “I love country music. I’m very excited about female country artists I think because I grew up on them…I’m a big fan and would love for you to be on my team.”
- TEAM KELLY
CLERIDA (30) – Long Island, New York
Classical trained musician – accompanied herself on cello
- Auditioned with “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae

SAMANTHA HOWELL (19) – Virginia Beach, Virginia
- Auditioned with “Take It On the Run” by REO Speedwagon
Chairs turned: 1 – Kelly, 2 – Blake (blocked), 3 – Nick
KELLY: “I have one block for this entire season and I used it, girl, for you. I heard that guitar and I was like, Jesus, take the wheel. Then I heard a milli-second of your voice and was in.”
NICK: “You were phenomenal. I agree, it’s exciting to have a country singer, but I don’t think you’re limited to that.”
SAMANTHA: “I don’t consider myself a country artist.”
KELLY: “Wait, what? Do you know that God might?”
- TEAM KELLY
JAMAL CORRIE (26) – San Francisco, California
- Auditioned with “Be Alright” by Dean Lewis
Chairs turned: 1 – Blake
BLAKE: “I hit my button for you because I believe in you and I believe you’ve got talent. That’s what we’re supposed to do on this show is coach and get somebody there, somebody we do think has the tools, that has the cool tone, a voice, all those things. Now the rest is up to you and me to put that game plan together. I’m proud of you and I’m proud to be your coach.”
- TEAM BLAKE
RUBY G (29) – Brooklyn, New York
- Auditioned with “Hard Place” by H.E.R.
NO CHAIRS
NICK: “The song choice was just complicated, but there’s so much there and it’s so rich…I’m sorry the chairs didn’t turn, but I believe in you.”
SAMUEL WILCO (39) – Fort Knox, Kentucky
Serving in the Army (20 years)
- Auditioned with “Lately” by Stevie Wonder
Chairs turned (and then they malfunctioned and turned back): 1 – Kelly, 2 – Nick
KELLY: “I love your voice and, honestly, I sang that entire song with you back here. I felt a connection right off the bat and I had to turn around.”
NICK: “That performance was unbelievable and thank you for your service. We need a voice like that in the competition and you brought it today. And you did it with such ease…You blew me away.”
HAWK MCINTYRE (20) – Boone, Iowa
- Auditioned with “Lie To Me” by Jonny Lang
NO CHAIRS
BLAKE: “The intensity was there and the pitch was there, but that song, note wise, didn’t really expand.”
THUNDERSTORM ARTIS (23) – Haleiwa, Hawaii
Comes from a family with 11 kids and they’re all musical. Father passed away when he was 13.
- Auditioned with “Blackbird” by The Beatles
4 CHAIR TURN: 1 – Nick, 2 – John, 3 – Kelly, 4 – Blake
NICK: “That is what this show is all about. Unbelievable. Your vocal control was just perfect and I need you on my team.”
KELLY: “There’s nothing that anyone here is going to do for you that, vocally, God hasn’t already gifted you with naturally…we’re just going to be your cheerleaders, helping you navigate the competition.”
BLAKE: “Congratulations on being ridiculously talented.”
JOHN: “I am notoriously stingy about turning around for anybody, but when I do turn, I usually turn around fast because I can hear in someone’s tone that magic, and Thunderstorm, your tone was magical.”
The Voice returns on March 9 with the fourth of five nights of Blind Auditions and with the smaller team sizes, Battle Rounds and Knockouts will be here before you know it.
