One person was found dead Thursday morning in a fire inside a Shady Side house, and fire officials said they are investigating both the cause of the fire and the cause of the death.
The blaze occurred at a home on the 1500 block of Lincoln Road, inside the gated Columbia Beach community.
Fire officials first received a call for the fire at 10:41 a.m. and arrived at the scene at 10:47 a.m., said Lt. Erik Kornmeyer of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. The fire was under control in roughly 20 minutes, Kornmeyer said.
One adult body was located within the structure, and there were no other injuries, Kornmeyer said.
Both the cause of the death and the cause of the fire are under investigation. On Thursday afternoon, investigators from the fire department, Anne Arundel County Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were on the scene.
Neighbors had gathered outside of the scene, as well. The windows on the side of the home were charred, as was the front of the home and the building's white siding.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will need to provide positive identification of the victim, Kornmeyer said.
At least 50 emergency responders came to the scene, including firefighters from the Annapolis, Anne Arundel County and Calvert County fire departments.
In April a 78-year-old man died of smoke inhalation in a fire at his house in Arnold. Two men were in the home at the time. One escaped without injury, but Frank Dobson was unable to escape and died.
