Matt Clines entered the Big Brother house looking to win a half-million dollars. He left it caring less about the money and more about his new reality romance with Raven. In fact, once they were both up on the block, Matt actively campaigned for Raven to stay over him — even going so far as to repeatedly break house Have Not rules to earn an extra penalty vote against him.
It worked, as Matt was unanimously voted out of the house. But how does he feel about deliberately breaking the house rules? Who does he think cast that mystery second vote against him last week? And does he feel he and Raven actually have a future outside of the game? We asked the 33-year-old renovation consultant that and more on his way to the jury house, and here’s what he had to say.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: First off, who do you think cast that mystery second vote against you last week?
MATT CLINES: In short, I’m 99.9 percent sure it’s Alex.
You went ballistic on Jason after he did not pull Raven or you off the block. What was it that set you off so much?
I was upset about the move he made but wasn’t completely blindsided. I was more upset with how he handled it. Immediately after making the decision, he hid in the storage room for 20 minutes. It was very cowardly of him. The decision to not use the veto upset me but it was how he handled it that really got me angry.
You repeatedly broke the house rules as a Have Not — eating regular food, taking a hot shower, and sleeping in a normal bedroom — resulting in an extra penalty vote against you. Were you doing that out of frustration or just to help ensure Raven stayed in the game?
I want to be clear: I would never do that to be disrespectful to the game or production. That was purely out of making sure I got that penalty vote against me so I got evicted and Raven stayed. I never wanted to disrespect the game, the other houseguests, or Big Brother.
When you got into a relationship with Raven in the house, did you realize that might make you all targets and not be the best move for either of you strategically? And what do you think the future holds for you and Raven outside of the house?
Anytime you get into a showmance, that’s a risk you would run. But if I didn’t have that relationship with Raven, I don’t think I would have gotten this far in the game and I hope she feels the same way.
